Larry Walter Ables, 68, of Harrison, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 23, 2014. He was a Presbyterian. Larry served his country in the U.S. Army and was a retired Iron Worker and member of the Local Iron Worker Union #704. Larrys union bothers knew him as "Soupy". He was so proud of his work for TVA, his work with TVA Dam Safety, and his work to put the landmark glass top on the Tennessee Aquarium. He was a member and former Past Master of the Harrison Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lawrence and Louise Ables; three brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Ables, of Harrison; sons, Larry W. (Kayle) Ables, of Hixson, Michael Ables and Andrew Friedland, of Brooklyn, NY., Brandon Ables, of Harrison; two sisters, Patty Ann (Carl) Kelly, of Davisville, W.Va., Jo Ellen (Richard) Hendrickson, of Chillicothe, Ohio; two grandchildren, Trey and Noah Ables; several loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, at the Highway 58 chapel of Turner Funeral Home or you may visit the online guestbook @ Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, in the funeral home chapel with Masonic Rights and Memorial Service with Pastor, Andrew Lee Keffer officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors.
